Are You A Professional?

There are official lists of professions that are recognized by the State of Israel. Two professions that are not mentioned in this long list— which includes everything from Attorney to Zoologist—are Translator and Technical Writer. Additionally, there is no listing for Marcom Writer, Instructional Designer, Technical Communicator, or Documentation Engineer.

What Does this Mean?
It is well known in the industry that there is no accreditation program in Israel for anyone in the Technical Communication fields, and that we are still a long way from getting such a program. And it is a very complex procedure to have a new profession recognized by the state, requiring an act of Knesset.

At WORDS we believe that if we act like a professionals, inside and outside of the office, then we are "de facto" professionals in the eyes of the outside world.

There are three major ways that we at WORDS encourage professionalism:
  • Performing all tasks in a proficient manner, knowing our customers expectations, and meeting them in a timely manner
  • Continuing education in tools of the trade, new technologies, and trends in the field
  • Joining professional organizations and associating with other professionals
With highly experienced project managers, WORDS can assure the customer that the job will be done by qualified writers and translators, in a timely manner and according to international standards.

For more than twelve years WORDS has been the industry's leader in training with courses in technical writing, marcom, computer tools, and the theory behind different aspects of technical communications. With our own skilled trainers, as well as experts that we bring in from around the globe, WORDS provides training to the public, as well as companies, in the high-tech sector.

In Other WORDS is proud to be active in two different professional organizations: the Society of Technical Communication (STC) and the Israel Translation Association (ITA).

Our Director of Training, Leah Guren, is a past president of the Israel Chapter of the STC (the Society for Technical Communication), has recently been elected as one of the eight International directors of STC. She becomes the first person from Israel to serve on the STC International Board of Directors. Leah provides training at the local and international levels of the organization.

Charles Hurwitz, WORDS's Director of Technical Writing, has just finished a term on the STC Audit Committee.

On the corporate level we are actively strengthening our relationship with the ITA. Being corporate members of the organization, we sponsored a booth at the the last four annual conventions, and provided training at this year's convention at the Dan Carmel in Haifa.

We have recently participated in a meeting between the ITA and some of the leading translation agencies in Israel, discussing how we can help serve each others' interests in a more effective manner. Additionally, we talked about the issue of accreditation, the first step in being recognized as professionals at the government level.

We are proud that our team is made up of professionals—in every sense of the word.
